![]() There is a dealer's room which has lots of radio, but also movies starring radio stars, magazines dedicated to radio, and other knick knacks. The Cincinnati Old Time Radio Convention is a short convention dedicated to old time radio. They also have a celebrity panel where one or a few stars get up onstage and field questions from an interviewer and the audience. This year's lineup includes Dean Stockwell and Terry Moore. They try to get a variety of guests, usually older stars from early television or films. It features a screening room which is surprisingly empty for the most part and a large dealer space, but the real attractions of this show are the celebrity guests. The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in Maryland was a lot of fun the year I went (2013 to meet Margaret O'Brien). Hearing the whirr of the projector really cements the experience, and the silent films (they show about 2 each day) are all accompanied live on a piano. Plus, the movies they show are often pretty rare and they're all on film. It is one thing to see a few things here and there in an antique store, or to browse and browse on ebay, but it is a whole different, orgasmic experience to see it on every wall, on every table, in boxes underneath, and on the lips of every dealer in sight. It is a great place to meet fans of pre-60s movies, and a great place to look at massive amounts of memorabilia. Cinevent in my hometown is my favorite, and I've attended each year since 2007. ![]()
